A Spectrum of Colour

Artists and designers often use spectrum-based gradients to create depth, evoke emotions, or harmonise compositions.

When the fibre tribe (a group of textile enthusiast in Slaithwaite) started considering how to yarn bomb the 8 shop's on Carr Lane as part of the 100 year centenary project we discussed the possibility of theming each shop by colour.

A spectrum of colour.

The Spectrum SHOP 100 project is planned to be on display in June 2025 as part of the Woven in Kirklees festival.

We plan to make our Spectrum of Colour displays from woolly mandala's carefully colour curated.

I am getting involved in the project by providing basic knitting patterns to create those circular mandala's, the Pi circles and spiral circle patterns are available now.  I'm also encouraging local people to get involved, create a woolly mandala or two and send them in to us. The address to send them to is:-

This project will let us experiment with different colour combinations by bringing in complimentary & analogous colours with the colours used reflecting the shops paintwork and signage colours.

  • Complementary Colors: colors directly opposite each other (like blue and orange) to create vibrant contrast.
  • Analogous Colors: hues that sit next to each other on the colour wheel (such as yellow, yellow-green, and green) for a harmonious and natural look

Hopefully we will create eye-catching combinations. Keeping fingers crossed x
