2 or more coloured chevrons or stripes can be an effective way of brightening up plain knitting and depending on the colours used can give a really cool result. Different methods of knitting can be used (fairisle, intarsia or brioche) to build up the colourwork. Or why not just use colourful variagated yarn to build up random stripes as I did in the banana's and cream cowl below. A different effect can be achieved by building up your chevrons or stripes using textures; using different knitting stitches in the stripes. The beautiful lace sample scarf below was made in this way.
